Lobos de Arga plot
A failed writer returns to his hometown in Spain where the residents decide to "honor" him for his work. As soon as he arrives, he notices that all eyes are on him, but apparently not just because of his literary 'success'. Then it becomes clear that a murderous werewolf has been roaming the village for a hundred years and devouring residents continuously. The beast is now trapped in a maze made up of wine cellars. The only way the village can be rid of the curse is if the werewolf is presented with a member of the Mariño family. The newly arrived writer seems to be the perfect candidate for this job...

Wonderful entertainment. A film with fine humor and perfect timing of that humor, also very important. You are often woken up exactly at the moment you are taking a nap. The actors do a great job and it shows with great pleasure.

Director Juan Martínez, who also wrote the script, dispenses with digital animation in his film. When a fluffy monster flies through the air in the film, it is done very traditionally with the help of a steel cable (or something similar) and we like to see that. The special effects may not be perfect, but they fit very well in this sympathetic werewolf film that does not take itself very seriously.
Lobos de Arga is consciously old school cinema. A film with a humorous slant. A nice parodic homage to the werewolf genre. Don't expect too much real horror. Expect scenes that poke fun at genre clichés in a fun way. Expect absurd and silly situations. The film is a series of them. The crazy characters guarantee that.
Lobos de Arga is a humorous film that honors the werewolf genre with effects that are wonderfully handmade and with characters that behave wonderfully stupidly. Nice movie.
