One for the Money plot

"She's looking for a few not-so-good men"

Stephanie Plum (Katherine Heigl), penniless and unemployed, blackmails her cousin Vinnie from the Surety bond and Debt Collection agency to get her a job as a bounty hunter. Her first assignment: the arrest of Joe Morelli (Jason O'Mara), a former police officer and now charged with murder. Interesting detail: Morelli is the super macho who deflowered Stephanie when she was sixteen and then wrote the revealing details on the wall of the toilet of Mario's Lunchroom.

Nice and light comedy about a woman who is a bounty hunter after her boyfriend. Entertaining film, nothing wrong with a comedy. It's very close to 3* in my opinion.

Lame.

Just like Bounty Hunter actually. This film also has too much trouble connecting comedy and crime. Heigl is mainly suitable for romantic comedies, as a bounty hunter she cuts a rather stupid figure.

Her opponent is not much better, there is not much chemistry between the two. Most of the humor still comes from the bit parts, but they are also very limited. Fortunately, the film does start to run a little better after an hour, especially if you leave Heigl's incredible turnaround for what it is.

Robinson is also not doing too much of it as a director. It all looks rather lifeless and saltless. Formula work, therefore, for everyone who participated in this film. That's not even such a disaster, but it is when a number of actors act outside their comfort zones.

1.5*

I ignored it for a while because of the fairly low average and relatively many negative reviews. Still, the story kept drawing me in and I went to see it anyway. Never regretted it for a moment. Well-maintained film, acting performances are okay, but every now and then everything is just a bit too good. It's not a high-flyer and won't watch it again, but for once it's quite a fun movie. I personally found the ending very sad, even though you can see it coming in advance. Would have preferred an ending where Plum would get something with Ranger. It shouldn't have been sweet, certainly not, but I liked that much more. Not much humor for a comedy, but this didn't bother me. All in all a good movie for once, 3*.
