It's arguably the greatest story ever told. The life of Jesus has inspired billions of people and the Bible is the second most printed book after the Ikea guidebook. Still, it is shocking that the film has been given this title. It comes across as arrogant. It does not fit the figure we know as Jesus. His story is of course beautiful and grand, but for me it is by no means the best I have read.

For what is the greatest story of all time, they should have done something else in the first place than this dry story. The best scenes are so tamely portrayed that it seems as if every ounce of fun is consciously withheld from you. And if this is 'the greatest story of all time', why were there (albeit small) changes made? The only really great things are the sets and the music. Something that is quite common for historical and/or religious films of that time. The film is still quite interesting at times, but I've seen better adaptations. The Passion Of The Christ easily surpasses this, but it is not hopelessly outdated.

The greatest story ever told, but without the right narrator you can make the best story boring of course. Beautifully filmed, you must indicate that. It looked better than expected. But many actors act quite woodenly and it has been made quite soulless. The makers apparently assumed that the story would sell itself. However, you can do much more with this. The stories lend themselves to it, and other films have already proven that. Good try, but again please and with the necessary enthusiasm!

Just like King of Kings quite a tiring affair. And then it was even a little better. Have the idea that filmmakers at the time still feared to be portrayed as disrespectful if they wanted to give this story a little too much panache. For me, the best Bible movie remains The Ten Commandments, but it wasn't about Jesus of course.
