The Allnighter plot
"Who says you can't do it all in one night?"
Despite their frustrations, three friends decide to party the last night before their graduation. Molly is disappointed in the shallowness of the guys she's met so far. Val has doubts about her engagement to Chad and film student Gina is still working on her graduation project. Together, the girls face a night full of pleasant and less pleasant surprises.

Although the film poster suggests otherwise, this is a tame, often downright boring comic drama for which Tamar Simon Hoffs assigned her daughter Susanna (at the time a guitarist with The Bangles) one of the leading roles. In her role as student Molly doesn't have to do much more than look nice and look innocent and that's a good thing, because there is nothing to indicate that she can act. That lack of acting talent is more visible with John Terlesky as Molly's friend, sort of. James Shanta is embarrassingly bad as a surf dude named Killer. Joan Cusack keeps things afloat somewhat and there is an amusing role for Pam Grier as a decisive police officer, but that doesn't make this a recommendation.

With some films you have the feeling from the start that it's simply not going to work out. This movie was one of those. The above review is one I agree with. The film is indeed tame. It contains few comic scenes. The romance is lame (no chemistry at all between Hoffs and Terlesky). Even the "beach" content in the film is disappointing. And the characters are empty, you can't feel any empathy or anything for them. Not even for Hoffs with her sad faces. Hoffs himself, as can be read on Wikipedia, would also find the film far from great. She loved the whole experience of making the film. It's probably true, but as a viewer it's not of much use to you, of course. No, this is definitely not a high flyer.
