Recently watched the film again on DVD and I still think this is a very strong film. If it was Kaplan's intention to question the American legal system, I believe it has succeeded. The film is actually a court drama, but because of the weird twists that the law has in America, you as a viewer stay on track in this film and the film never gets bogged down to a dime a dozen. By the way, the acting performances of Foster and McGillis are top notch, a pity that the supporting roles remain a bit one-dimensional, while those supporting roles provided the necessary opportunities to get more out of it, think of the viewer who Foster on the harassed parking lot, or the final witness who made the difference. That makes the film stick with me at 4

I don't think we should disconnect this film from the 80s from the zeitgeist either. I think that today there is (hopefully) different views on rape, sexual harassment and gender equality. Not that the pendulum has to swing for that reason, but just like with racial films or films about LGBs, keeping the spirit of the times is not unimportant.

Furthermore, what a dull courtroom drama that only took me into the story at times. As in many court cases, terminology is very important. Sexual assault and rape are legally a very big difference. Also interesting is the discussion between the terms "provoke" and "challenging attire", which are just disgusting to twist the facts to your own advantage.

Prima Foster, although she will never be one of my favorite actresses. There's something about her that annoys me, but I can't name it. But that's personal and I don't mean anything by it at all. I thought that the perpetrators, witness(s) and bystanders were worked out a bit too shallow, otherwise very solid.
