John Dies at the End plot

"Just so you know... they're sorry for anything that's about to happen."

There is a new drug on the market that gives the user an out-of-body experience. On the street it is called 'Soy Sauce' and many users are already wandering through time and dimensions. But some who come back from the trip are not human anymore. A silent invasion from another world appears to be in full swing, and a new hero is sought. Unfortunately, only John and David are there, two young men who have dropped out of college and can barely hold a job. Can these two save humanity from the coming atrocities? No, they can't...

Watched this one once and it was just a special movie after all. Not really a big story and the cast wasn't that special either, but it didn't get boring either. For those who like

If there is humor at all, it is so hypothermic that you hardly notice it. It all seems to have something to do with a drug with hallucinatory side effects, different dimensions and suddenly appearing strange creatures, but it is barely noticeable for the viewer. Massacres and mutilations come pretty much out of nowhere and later on probably even the biggest splatter fans quite cold. A good idea, but very poorly executed. Based on a story by Jason Pargin, aka David Wong.

silly.

An old director who might now want to appeal to a younger audience, I think. On the other hand, it is a great reference to the fun of horror 30 years ago. So I think they were mainly looking to just attract a lot of people by presenting their own love on the screen. That just doesn't work well.

The film pulls out too many stops and has therefore mainly become a chaotic mess that no longer manages to get the level above the first minutes. The opening had something that the rest of the film hardly has, and that is structure. Where first a kind of story is told, later an accumulation of strange creatures, weird ideas and two mediocre main characters who bump into many stupid scenarios.

Despite quite a large dose of creativity, the film does not have a quirky character. It never feels like a good whole, rather a few separate skits. Sometimes they turn out reasonably well, but the mediocre computer animation prevents real love from splashing out. In addition, the acting is seriously bad and the better actors are placed in short roles.

I seriously wondered what the hell I was actually watching. I can appreciate strangeness here and there, but when it doesn't really work its way anywhere it gets harder. I didn't laugh a lot either and in terms of gore it's also disappointing. Enough blood, but not really something that is impressive or nicely worked out. I actually thought it was all childish, that towards the second half also seems to lose sight of the entertainment content. Shame, but fun for the fans.

Incidentally, I could taste the finale, as one of the few pieces.
