De Wilde Stad plot
De Wilde Stad paints a picture of the city from a completely new perspective, that of the unnoticed inhabitants: the many wild animals and plants. Glass and concrete mountain ranges, industrial savannas, miles of sewage pipes. For a wide range of wildlife, trees and plants, our brick streets, tunnels, waterways and buildings are just as suitable and attractive as a primeval forest or new wilderness. The city does not supplant or replace nature, it is nature. The commuting chippy gull and the vinex fox are just as wild and special as the seal and the panda. Amsterdam forms the stage for an exploration of the deep and often humorous bond between humans and animals, experienced through the eyes of real city dwellers and movie hangover Abatutu. He shows the dynamics and speed of the city, which goes unnoticed for many people.

Well, that was just as bad. Let me briefly summarize why this natural spectacle was so disappointing:
- it is told by a cat (via voice over) and the cat takes you through the city. Too many images of the cat and the voice acting is too childish.
- only a few animals are discussed, mainly birds. I have little interest in birds (personal taste)
- the camera images are sometimes sharp and sometimes extremely vague (read: pixel counting time)
- the camera work is mediocre. Often times when you think: what now?! the images were cut off. As if the camera crew is following behind the facts.
- there was a visible lack of good material. A large part of the film is filled with images of Amsterdam, while I came for beautiful nature images.
Just like with Black Panther, I am not going to give any points for the fact that this is a home-grown nature documentary (Dutch pride!). This just isn't it. Back to the beautiful images of 'Earth'.
PS: bonus 0.5 for the last scene. I could appreciate it.

Slimeball and enthusiast avant la lettre Matthijs van Nieuwkerk said about this documentary: 'Sir David Attenborough could be jealous of it. Great nature film, I really say it emphatically. Meticulously, as if through a ring.' 
What a bad documentary. The commentary voice is so annoying, it sounds like someone who normally works for a sex line and records dirty stories or something like that. Panting, almost. This makes a simple sentence like 'Squirrels love nuts... ' suddenly sound like something very ambiguous. ('And all those wide mouths have to be filled, that never ends.' 'Damn, a sparrowhawk!') Text is by Sylvia Witteman, which explains a lot.
Of course Toots Thielemans should not be missing from a film about Amsterdam. You also hear a number of terrible songs, in Dutch.
But admittedly, there are some nice things in it too... The cat going up in the elevator, haha! 
Or that rat swimming through the canal, awhh how sweet! And as bad as I thought it was, it is slightly more sympathetic than his two previous films.

The Flemish counterpart Onze Natuur (Film, 2022) is a lot stronger and is above all more diverse. The wild city has a slightly different design. It is especially airier. With the cat, which is somewhat overweight, you have nice glasses to look at the fauna in Amsterdam in this way. You could make it into a tourist commercial. That cat in the elevator is funny.
It's quite incredible how some animals adapt and survive in a busy city. You can expect this from birds, but for foxes, for example, it is a lot more difficult. They are a lot bigger and can't just disappear.
The images are beautiful, with many birds. That could perhaps be a little more diverse. The audio voice (very poor content) and the music were not great. That bothered me at times.
