Alle Tijd plot

Maarten (Paul de Leeuw) and Molly (Karina Smulders) have a very special bond with each other. Since the death of their parents, Maarten has been responsible for raising his little sister. Supported by his best friend Reina (Lineke Rijxman), he raised Molly into a confident, young woman. Maarten has completely ignored himself for this. When Molly suddenly announces that she is moving in together, he is confronted with the so-called 'empty nest syndrome'. Both Maarten and Molly have great difficulty adjusting to their new phase of life and are becoming further and further apart. But then disaster strikes and Molly falls ill. They are forced to make rigorous choices.

Nice message from Soom above and somehow I understand it too. Paul has to pull this film on his own, as it were, and he does it creditably.

Unfortunately, almost every facet of the film is still lacking, referring to the other actors and the direction, but especially the script is occasionally to cry. Very dull, primary conversations that are even stronger in the office. And not that the actors can do much about it, but often it is also pronounced as if they are reading everything live from the autocue. The beginning of the film is also quite messy, so that even in the beginning I didn't have a clue what the relationship between the different characters was exactly (could have been me too).

To top it all off, the film wants to repeat the emo trick of 'A woman comes to the doctor' at the end, but Molly's whole disease process doesn't get off the ground and dies a slow death (apologies). This also kills the scenario and the rest of the hope for a good ending, figuratively speaking.

Not all doom and gloom, though. Nice to see The Hague as a recording city and the camera work and sound were also good. Certain scenes were also touching and beautifully designed, but once I'm out of concentration I often stay that way with movies, and after the 70th minute I just couldn't get into it anymore.

Seen positive things and a nice idea, but the complete picture just didn't add up.

Edit: the actress who played Reina, like Paul, also did a great job.

That Paul. He is indeed much more than a (wannabe) funny gay man with a big belly and a balding head. But I've known that for a long time.

I saw a making off of this movie a while back and I was quite impressed. I really wanted to see 'Alle Tijd'.

The movie starts fine. Calm build-up, deepening of the characters and slowly you get to know them better. Couple of nice moments (the gay dog ) Paul has something in him that I find touching. Something cuddly almost. He always manages to put a smile on my face. It's wonderful how he secretly still eats his girlfriend's piece of cake and checks that no one sees him. __O_ Still my kind of humor. Also for example:

''My name is Arthur.'' - ''Gosh! Ugly name.'' and ''Here lies Maarten. Slim at last.''' Delicious self-mockery.

The bond between Maarten and Molly is believable and pure from the first second. I also thought Maarten's budding romance was cute. Beautiful, sensitive soundtrack too. Bit of a tearjerker, but that's okay with a movie like this.

It's a pity that the disease is only discussed after a good hour, so that the last half hour feels short. Perhaps for the better, because it is gripping, even though it takes place at a fast pace. Her death I thought a bit abrupt. Pats, boom, dead and go pick out funeral cards. A bit impersonal almost.

At the funeral I had to shed a few tears. Very nicely played. Class acting throughout the film. Especially Paul. Impressed.

This is definitely a really fun movie. It is kept nice and small and intimate, creating a warm, catchy atmosphere. Paul de Leeuw knows how to reinforce this with his acting. I had already seen a foretaste of Paul in a fairly serious role in "Everything is Love" and he did not do it without merit. This movie makes me absolutely sure that he can absolutely carry these kinds of roles.

The bond between brother and sister is very moving. The story is very dramatic but it is not overdramatized. There are even enough fun humorous scenes in between which make it emotional but it doesn't become a real heavy cost. I think that balance is very well done.

What I also really liked about the story were all the mutual relationships. For example, the bond between Maarten and Reina was very beautiful. Also nice to see how the vet is included in the group dynamics . This gave the film that extra bit of atmosphere and warmth.

Yes, I definitely recommend this one.
