Film with a rather ridiculous and bizarre approach. A man captures a haggard and cannibalistic woman with the aim of civilizing her along with his family. A family project, he calls it. Well.

The film follows two tracks. First of all, we get an insight into the family. A dysfunctional family with a lot of covered drama in it. The family members are unworldly caricatures. The caricatural aspect of the characters makes them unintentionally (I think) humorous in a morbid way and that is disastrous for a serious experience of the film. All serious things that happen in the film can no longer be taken seriously after getting to know the family members. All events, no matter how cruel, sick and nasty, have an entertaining and almost light-hearted edge from that moment on.

Oh yeah. The other film track leads to the captured cannibal. She is the psychological trigger that brings life to the brewery. She unleashes the beast in man and provides the horror element in the film with her performance. She does interact with the family members, but is otherwise separate from them. It is therefore not directly associated with entertainment and lightheartedness. Of course, her horror worth is somewhat undermined by the fact that she plays with those idiots from that family in a movie. But she is clearly above it.

Even more focus on the messed up family would have made for a fun comedy. More cannibal, a decent horror movie. Now I can't get beyond reasonably entertaining nonsense with an edge of horror.

Quite fun.

Totally not expected, but I thought it was a great movie. From a director whose May I found to be downright mediocre, surprises me here with an extremely unusual, crazy and at times daring and quite crude The Woman . McKee is still a special filmmaker.

Bridgers was very nice as the father. You would almost think that his motives are still quite reasonable to process. McIntosh in a somewhat strange role as expected, but still performs it quite well. At least she really is a strange individual.

Although the horror may not always be present in the first part, the film never bores. Everything is too strange and absurd for that. You do wonder how it will all go, so it never gets boring. Good thing, too.

It remains a crazy film, certainly not a mainstream film. In the second part, the film becomes twice as bizarre and therefore even more fun. While the first part was just entertaining, the second part is also so crazy that it's going to be fun again.

Pretty gross and dirty moments at times. This movie turned out to be quite fun, although there doesn't seem to be a real story. In the first few minutes I feared it would be a boring movie, but that eventually changed.

Looked again and it still remains a very gray and depressive work, the sound/songs are also in good shape. I continue to find this a wonderful work, the disease we call 'human beings' is beautifully displayed here, sick and pernicious.
