Housemaid Angélique (Bettina Zimmermann) is fed up with the scheming of the French nobility and she leaves the court of the countess for whom she works. In the farming village where she ends up, she meets Duke Jean (Stefan Jürgens). This charming nobleman introduces her to the beau monde of Paris, where the two uncover an assassination plot against King Louis XV.
