Les Lyonnais plot

Ever since his childhood, which he spent in total poverty in a gypsy camp, Edmond Vidal, alias Momon, has remembered what real family values are; loyalty without limits, and pride in his heritage. Especially his relationship with Serge Suttel, his childhood friend with whom he flew into prison after a vulgar cherry theft, has been well preserved. Together they took the plunge into the Great Crime, and founded the Gang of Lyons, which made them the most notorious gangsters of the early 1970s.

I happened to see this film this morning (unfortunately I missed the first 20 minutes) on Film 1 and I have to say that it was quite a fascinating and also regularly tasty hard French crime film. The story (true) was quite nice and also looked away nicely. The cast, unknown to me, did well too, especially the young Momon Vidal (played by Dimitri Storoge) and the old Momon Vidal (played by Gérard Lanvin). That was in any case beautifully rendered the time frame between the 1970s and the present day.

A mess. The people of Momon, but also the film. Feels in everything like a crime epic that takes more than two hours to get a foothold. What it is is barely an hour and a half of quick narration, back and forth in time, with gangsters you don't know and forget again five minutes after the movie. Triple jumps that take you from one crime to another, driven by a silly friendship plot with a ridiculous lock. A rushed unity sausage.

Hard-hitting, violent crime film. The constant time jumps help to keep it interesting, although there is plenty of action and drama in itself. In the vein of American films of the genre.

The actors certainly have enough shrewdness and cruel features on their faces to belong to the environment, but in fact it is mainly Gérard Lanvin who draws the attention.
