I've seen all of director Joshua Logan's movies. With the possible exception of Sayonara (1957), there is not one of them that could particularly appeal to me.
That also applies to this far too theatrical film. In my opinion, Susan Strasberg (Millie) is the only one who scores a sufficient, because even the almost always reliable William Holden goes off the rails. I've known for a long time that Kim Novak can't act. But yes, it has other advantages to throw into the fight.

Beautiful story that sticks. However, I thought the actor William Holden (despite his well-trained and muscular body) was too old to start a relationship with Kim Novak. In the close-up scenes I saw that Williams' face was already quite full of wrinkles and looked quite worn out. It was hard for me to imagine a young lady in her early 20s falling for such a man. This fact bothered me somewhat. The extras of the Eureka series "Masters of Cinema" featured a documentary in which it was said that William Holden was 37 years old at the time of filming. However, he looked a lot older in the movie and I felt that affected the credibility of the story a bit.
