'The Cold Light of Day' is about the young American Will (Henry Cavill) who sees his family fall into the hands of kidnappers during a holiday in Spain. While searching for his family, he comes across a government conspiracy and a connection between the kidnapping and his father.

With JCVD, Mabrouk El Mechri still scored high by directing Jean-Claude Van Damme to a decent acting performance. With his Hollywood debut 'The cold light of day', however, he does not succeed in motivating his actors (not in the least with Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver). And the cause of this can be sought in the fact that one has to make do with a very abstinent, even childish script: the protagonist has to return a suspicious briefcase to the angry men. This provides a nice picture of Spain, but the cinephile aspect is completely omitted.

Opinions differ. Good thing, too. I thought it was an entertaining action film that is slightly different from the average action film. There are definitely better ones, but it's certainly not bad.

Mediocre. Henry Cavill has quite a bit of talent and as Superman he is good, but this is almost embarrassing. Is it Cavill? The direction? The script? Whatever it is, it doesn't work at all. That Cavill isn't even the worst element of The Cold Light of Day is telling. The story makes no sense and there is no tension. It is predictable and uninspired, and you forget about these kinds of films one second after the end. Even actors like Sigourney Weaver and Bruce Willis can't change that, and that says it all.
