Vénus Noire plot
The film tells about the life of the Hottentot-Venus. That was the nickname of Saartjie Baartman (1789-1815), a young black woman who came from the Khoikhoi people of South Africa. Saartjie was exhibited in London because white Europeans wanted to see her physique. She was very small, had a black complexion, a large behind, long labia and thick lips, as was more common among the Khoi. Saartjie Baartman later traveled to Paris and eventually died of an infectious disease on December 29, 1815.
