"It takes a legend... to make a star"
Ali is a big-voiced, small-town singer who flees hardship and an uncertain future to fulfill her dreams in Los Angeles. She ends up in The Burlesque Lounge, a majestic but decaying theater that houses a spirited musical company. Tess, owner of the club and also the headliner, gives Ali a job as a waitress. The overwhelming costumes and daring choreography in Burlesque delight the young singer, who vows to one day be on stage herself. With the help of a witty stage manager and a bartender, Ali ends up on stage from behind the bar. With her spectacular voice, she restores The Burlesque Lounge to its former glory, until a charismatic businessman comes up with an enticing proposal.

Dance, show and song film.
Very smooth, with good dialogues and decent acting.
The story keeps it simple but it's the musical that has to do it.
Christina Aguilera shines and Cher's expressive look does not go unnoticed.

For me, Burlesque is mainly saved by the enthusiastic direction that throws itself at it with full force. This makes it clear from the first few scenes which atmosphere should be communicated to the viewer. A sunny, cheerful and entertaining movie awaits you at the gate, or the screen.
Like a lot of similar music films, these kinds of films often seem to forget that they also have to write a story. Again, that hardly seems to happen in this film. Some vague ideas, probably pulled from the concept board, are glued together a bit. While the film is busy crossing all kinds of basic clichés, the viewer remains fascinated by the approach.
I found Aguilera's acting to be downright weak. The film does make it quite clear that it was made for the stage. As soon as the scenes start in which there is singing and dancing, we suddenly see a completely different Aguilera. Luckily Cher manages to find a better balance in acting and singing. Gigandet I found very easy to chew.
What the film can mainly benefit from is the cheerful style and explosion of colors. With a lot of flair and madness, the story is quickly forgotten thanks to the appropriate stylization. In terms of cinematography and filters, there are a number of unparalleled pieces in between. Not every scene knows how to fully utilize this, but luckily a lot do so that the 2 hours never feel too long.
Compared to other films, this one can be called a bit better due to a slightly larger approach. I still find some characters insufferable and the story is too weak to get a pass from me, but that does not alter the fact that it remains a smooth film with which I was able to enjoy myself optimally. It's my thing, the purely stylistic films.
