Little Man Tate plot

"It's not what he knows. It's what he understands."

When Fred was one year old, he could read. At the age of four he wrote poetry. Now seven years old, he paints Da Vinci's Madonna, plays Mozart concertos on the piano and solves mathematical problems, as if he were Pythagoras himself. His artistic and scientific brilliance causes Fred a violent emotional reaction to the two worlds around him. The emotional world of Dede, his devoted mother and the intellectual world of Fred's counselor (herself child prodigy) Jane. Confused, but determined, Fred searches for friends, understanding and a place of his own between mother and mentor.

Nice drama with a great acting Jodie Foster and Adam Hann-Byrd. The story is quite good and the film is not too long which keeps it interesting.

This movie moved me. At times it is a bit long winded but it still struck me. Brilliant role played by Foster, but the boy also played a very impressive role. Even the "dramatic" scenes were very convincing, while that is often more difficult with a child. Nice to see how she fights for the rights of her son.

This drama about a gifted boy who would prefer to be an ordinary boy was missing something. It's kind of what others say: nice but it doesn't excel at anything; the really good scenes can be counted on one hand unfortunately. Little Tate seemed a bit of an anemic moron. Even with Foster as the mother, I was still hungry. Then there was an unnecessary scene with a boy who almost drowned . It's easy to look away, but the film doesn't really have much to say about the subject it broaches.
