A complete surprise. A beautiful satire on contemporary French society. Political divisions, consumerism, pedophilia, the hectic pace of life, bird flu, the Algerian War, sham marriages, prejudices, and even the Holocaust, to name just a few: they're all addressed in a refreshing way in this farce with a serious undertone.

Superbly performed by Jacques Gamblin and Sara Forestier, who deservedly received a César for her uninhibited, disarming, and infectious performance. The acting, the tight direction, and the razor-sharp, often hilarious dialogue make this film one of the very best comedies of recent years.

Truly a gem.

It could have been so beautiful, but the endless political drivel, constantly referring to Auschwitz and Algeria, Jews and Arabs, the far left and the far right, Le Penn and Sarkozy, etc., completely ruins this "comedy." I wouldn't be surprised if this film had been made in 2015, and the director would have included the boat refugee. Well, I simply hate endless political drivel in films, especially those supposed to be comedies, although in this one, I felt the drama far outweighed the comedy.

Is there anything positive to mention? Yes, the appearance of the lighthearted Bahia—extremely well played by Sara Forestier—was a feast for the eyes. Without the, in my opinion, completely unnecessary political nonsense, this could have been a truly beautiful film. But unfortunately, the director thought otherwise.

Very funny and beautifully sharp in its observations—and how a situation is then fabricated around them. It makes me wonder why we somehow can't pull off this kind of comedy in the Netherlands—if we try something like that here, it's already flat and insipid, while in France it almost always remains charming, lighthearted, and witty. And then with as much (and very enjoyable) nudity as Sara Forestier shows—that would surely lead to parliamentary questions in our country; in France, we simply find it funny and relevant to the film.

On the other hand, this film is also exceptionally good for France, without hesitation, that must be said, and perhaps that's mainly due to Leclerc, who not only helped craft the half-baked story but also managed to keep it on track—a combination you don't really see in demand. This is the first film of his that I've seen, and that's what makes me want to check out the other titles as well.
