"RED SKELTON'S HOWLING HIT ABOUT HOLLYWOOD!"
Merton, an unsophisticated small-town individual, has aspirations to become an actor in silent films. When he arrives in Hollywood, he is sent from pillar to post before finally getting his first screen test. At every audition, he is met with mocking laughter. When Merton leaves yet another disappointing audition, he decides to become a comedy actor, as it seems the only way for him to succeed. Then he meets Phyllis, a stunt actress with whom he develops an intimate relationship. Is this the turning point in his career?
