Donnie Yen is more and more convincing. Not only as a fighter, but also as a good actor. A perfect cocktail to take a film like this to the next level. Furthermore, the film also has several big names so that the film becomes a mix of a war drama and martial arts with quality in various areas: dialogues, acting, fights, story, ... I do not know the original Chen Zhen version by Bruce Lee, but this is definitely worth it. I want to see more of this.

The historical interests me more and more (as some users already mentioned). I was not really aware (except for Yip Man) of the historical events in China in the early 20th century. Their part in WWI, the occupation by Japan, ... I would like to see more of this.

Continuation of the 1994 Jet Li film Fist of Legend, which in turn was a remake of Fist of Fury (1972) with Bruce Lee. The leading role in the 2010 Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen (original title Jing Wu Feng Yun: Chen Zhen) this time is for Donnie Yen, who has now also made his mark in the Martial arts genre. 1994 director Gordon Chan has taken over production this time and was also co-responsible for the screenplay, while Andrew Lau ( Infernal Affairs ) was now in the director's chair. The story takes place during the Japanese occupation of China a few years before the outbreak of the Second World War and tells (again) the well-known story of the Chinese resistance against foreign (Japan, Great Britain) domination and oppression. For the most part, this results in a quite fascinating whole, with the action scenes being the most striking. The script also has plenty of interesting angles, although I must say that it sometimes falters a bit and almost feels caricatured.

I think Yen's acting is surprisingly strong here. Other convincing contributions include Shu Qi as nightclub dancer Kiki and Huang Bo as a Chinese police inspector who repeatedly has to navigate between his own people and his foreign superiors. Another, also quite well-known actor in the cast is the almost always impressive Anthony Wong. Unfortunately, his qualities are hardly used here. He is given far too little to do and his input into the story is minimal.

Furthermore, beautiful sets and beautiful images, and together with the flashy action, these form a quite spectacular Legend of the Fist, although the realism does suffer somewhat. Strong performance by Donnie Yen and, to a slightly lesser extent, Andrew Lauw, who ultimately make for an entertaining and satisfying film.
