With such a brilliant idea, you wouldn't think it could go wrong. No, it's not completely wrong, just a little bit. The movie was introduced by Vuorensola himself, a funny guy who told some anecdotes about the movie itself. For example, the film crew had a lot of problems importing Nazi costumes into Germany where the film itself was shot. It's quite sensitive there.

Iron Sky is a silly SF comedy that no doubt reminds me of Mel Brooks movies, with jokes that are outspoken (anti) Nazi (that bleached nigger ) on the one hand, and political satire on America on the other (Sarah Palin president, war against terrorism jokes). References to other films (including Der Untergang, Star Trek) are also discussed. Some jokes were good, but many others I found quite bland. But there is something for everyone when it comes to humor. Most Nazi jokes are often quite cliché and you can easily make up your own. As a result, the film loses its guts and you have an idea that is wrong and creates high expectations, but in the end with an execution that has remained very well-behaved and, to my regret, never really becomes provocative.
.
The low budget is not visible. The shots of the Nazi fortress on the moon and the most beautiful space battles since Star Wars are beautifully done and impressive. At these moments, the film also looks more expensive than it really is. The big downside is the way the story unfolds. A thin storyline that makes goats' bites. Before you know it the invasion of Earth starts, before you know it the Nazi leader is in the white house, before you know it the bad guy is already dead and before you know it it's suddenly over. It went too fast and the characters continue to be caricatures, but that must have been the intention. An amusing film but far from an instant classic. The film is too messy and too good for that. 3*

Such a pity.

This film really lacks two things: guts and creativity. Because although the premise opens the door wide to sharp absurdism, it remains at a level of lukewarm soup.

It is partly due to the actors, of whom no one really has the comical talent to take the weak script to a higher level. And therein lies the film's biggest problem: the script no longer manages to surprise or impress from the point of departure. Bland finds and choppy elaboration of scenes, that's about it.

Visually or again very attractive. Bit of comic book style that works well on both subject matter and budget (which I didn't realize was so limited until I read it here). Even in props and decoration, stylish and well-maintained, but certainly everything in space and on the moon makes an impression.

Beyond the visual, this is a film that shows for an hour and a half, painfully not being able to make much of a brilliant premise. If you cannot or do not dare to go over the top, you should not take it as a starting point. 2*

Nice is not it?

After the Second World War, the Nazis apparently were not completely overpowered. A large group fled to the moon, and after NASA starts another Apollo moon mission after almost 40 years, the astronauts come face to face with a real third empire on the moon. How do you come up with that?

At least, only one astronaut remains alive and that is the dark-skinned James Washington. Even though the lunar Nazis are bothered by his color, they still see a true genius in this man. Mainly because of the smartphone he owns that could replace those old 1940s computers. Then Washington is also seduced by the Nazi woman Renate Richter, but he is also made white by an experiment to be sent back to earth as a messenger or something.

Because after half a century, the Lunar Nazis are still planning to attack Earth.

Iron Sky knows how to become a crazy, wrong blockbuster with a neat look and decors. A big mistake: If such an air shaft opens in space, you will not survive as either a human or a ship.
On Earth, Washington tries to find Renate and warn humanity. But these think he's crazy... until the first space blimps still come on the radar.

How it ends? See for yourself...

Just a corny stunt from the director. You should take that with a grain of salt anyway, because this is cult entertainment at its best.
