Zot van A. plot

Tom Reynders, who has been shaping Sinterklaas for a quarter of a century, dies of a cardiac arrest just before the steamer will sail into the port of Antwerp. Jan, a casual passer-by who has nothing in common with Saint Nicholas, accidentally gets a miter put on his head. The arrival of the new Sinterklaas also shakes up other lives, such as that of production assistant Annette, who has to steer the television recordings around the Sinterklaas celebration in the right direction. And then there is Anna, the daughter of Tom Reynders. She has kicked her husband Bruno out of the house after a slip. Bruno is sorry and wants her back. But at her father's funeral, Anna falls head over heels for an eighteen-year-old Don Juan. Funeral director Fred is about to marry Alain. However, he finds Alain's urge to marry oppressive and flees into his work and hobbies. Alain's younger sister, Astrid, suffers from fear of commitment. Then she bumps into Paul Boulat, top tennis player and most desirable bachelor in the country…

Crazy from A.

To put it bluntly, I wasn't crazy about it

Even if Jan Verheyen had dropped the entire cast of the late Wittekerke, the film would not have been able to score for me. Zot van A. lacked that finesse and the light-hearted elements that I like to see in a romantic comedy... It was all too much and I often had the been there, done that feeling.

What I found positive about the film was the rendition of 'de Yuri', which I liked somewhat, but that was by far the only thing.

For the rest, it was a one-time experience for me, and a film that will soon be forgotten. I kind of expected this, but still.

I am not familiar with the Dutch version “Everything is love”, so comparison is not possible. This film does resemble Love actually, in which separate stories are somehow connected to each other through a mosaic story. Nice original title though. Zot van A.: referring to the Antwerp dialect where the "A" refers to "you", but where the title also refers to the slogan of the city of Antwerp at the time.

A film in which half-known Flanders participates. Always nice to see familiar and favorite faces. In any case, a nice enjoyable story in which Sinterklaas also gets the necessary attention. Funny at times. A bit tacky with all that rom-com stuff, but fun every once in a while.

A pure feel good movie with a lot of predictable and sugary sweet elements, but I could have it. A film by Flanders, for Flanders. Elsewhere he lacks the finesse and the click to be successful.
