Terror Trap plot

"Once you check in, there's no escape..."

On a weekend trip, young couple Don (Elliot) and Nancy (Marsden) are stranded due to car troubles in a small Louisiana town. Sheriff Taylor (Fahey) finds the couple and tells them that there is no one to fix their car until the next morning. He shows them the way to a motel run by Carter (Madsen) to spend the night. They check into this run-down motel, not knowing how outsiders are treated here. Even if the sheriff has a badge, he still has to answer to Carter. The same goes for a gang of sick and masked kidnappers, torturers and murderers. Before Don and Nancy realize what's going on, it's too late to run. They must fight to survive the night before they become the next victims.

Director Dan Garcia cleverly collects all kinds of well-known names who can now be cast for a bargain price and Jeff Fahey and Michael Madsen certainly do a good job. The protagonists, on the other hand, are extremely colorless and boring, which is not reinforced by the extremely mediocre acting. Garcia also works with practical effects, but portrays them in a confusing manner and with poor editing. It is therefore not exactly possible for the viewer to enjoy it, and there is hardly an effective atmosphere or effective tension to compensate for that. In principle, the biggest crime of Terror Trap is that it is on the boring side, but the enemy is nevertheless nicely portrayed and some of the kills in between are nice and clumsy. Yet it is clearly the cheapest and least qualitative participant in the Vacancy series (as far as it can be linked to it) and therefore receives the lowest score of the trilogy.
