"If at first you don't succeed, lower your standards."
Tommy Callahan Jr. is a not so bright boy who just finished school after 7 years. His father, Big Tom Callahan, owns an auto parts factory in Ohio. When Big Tom dies, the factory threatens to go bankrupt. Tommy sets out with Big Tom's right-hand man, Richard, to save the factory.

For some reason I have a soft spot for both Chris Farley and David Spade. That's why I condone the fact that this comedy is secretly very subpar when compared to "real" humor. In the end, it's a deluge of slapstick jokes that range from hilarious (the bees, the map, the car) to agonizingly bland (just about every scene somewhere).

Tommy Boy is the first film starring David Spade and Chris Farley together.
Farley plays a fat ADHD man, who must be kept in check by Spade. That works quite nicely here, because as a duo they come across as nice. Without Spade, Farley can be annoying at times. The story isn't that much. Fortunately, the humor sometimes works, although now and then the plan is quite wrong. Some of the jokes are pretty lame, but the scene with the moose in the backseat of the car, was quite hilarious.
In the end, because of moments like this, it is still a fairly easy viewer. Other than that, it's all nothing special, but it's entertaining, and it's not boring and the duo together is still quite fun.
