A small beautiful film that Flanders has been so good at in recent years. No frills but seemingly like a run-of-the-mill life. Unfortunately disrupted by a lung disease. The great thing is that Tom and Xavier have learned to live with the disease and it does not become a story of 'poor me'. What is in the back of your mind sometimes comes to the fore. It is and remains a health risk that will one day disrupt known life. The film is a debut by Hans Van Nuffel, who does very well. In addition, the film is carried by the unknown Stef Aerts, who until now had taken on some TV work and supporting roles. Actors Wouter Hendrickx and Marie Vinck are more experienced, but Stef continues to take the lead. Matching music by Spinvis provides the necessary atmosphere. The main advantage is that a film with such a theme quickly degenerates into corny. Van Nuffel does not fall into that trap and delivers a beautiful film. And the ending is very strong too. Please sit with me for a while.

Adem is a fine Flemish drama film that, given the subject matter, often takes place in hospitals. No overly sentimental stuff - a pitfall that some people commit - but a sincere portrait of a few young adults who suffer from the serious cystic fibrosis. In addition to a number of heavy scenes, there is more than enough input of light-hearted and humorous moments.
There is a nice contrast between the two opposites Xavier and Tom. The one is an optimist and it is contagious to be able to hear his self-reflection and mockery. Tom, on the other hand, finds it more difficult to place his illness. The scenario is nice, but unfortunately sometimes misses the mark (think for example of the moment when the hospital employee is sold a muzzle or scene with the stock of medicines). Stef Aerts is doing great, but it is especially Wouter Hendrickx who stands out.

Film about long-term sick young people in a hospital and their friendships and relationships. Initially mostly unbelievable and rather boring. Only towards the end does something of a story begin to emerge that is somewhat film-worthy. But that's way too late to make up for it. And even then, the ending is still not terribly satisfying.
