La Prima Cosa Bella plot
1971. In a popular beach establishment near the Tuscan port of Livorno, young mother Anna enters a beauty contest, which she easily wins. Her jealous husband Mario is furious at all the attention she's getting, while her 8-year-old son Bruno is put off by the whole thing. His younger sister Valeria is the only one who can enjoy the spectacle. The current time. Bruno receives an urgent visit from Valeria who tells him that their mother has cancer. Bruno tries to avoid returning to Livorno, but eventually gives in, and the sight of his mother sleeping in her hospital bed brings back bittersweet memories.
