Nice horror with a few good scares.

Acting leaves something to be desired, but because the rest does look good, I think it's worth enough.

Nice dark atmosphere too

Worthless. There is probably a nice horror film hidden in this somewhere, but what Liebesman does is three times nothing. Often an advantage, such a short playing time, here you get the idea that it is a trivial event. Progress, characters, dialogues; it all seems pretty silly. With the tooth fairy, the fun is soon over.

Always the same trick. Gasping, hissing and screaming before the hoverfly attacks, which always consists of wild cutting and pasting, as the not-so-great cast bounces from dark to light. Even before the time jump you are waiting for the moment that the mask goes off, but by that time there is no saving. A mess that does nothing.

Not so special.

Darkness Falls was one such film that was released right after recent violent events. A period that took its toll on horror movies, and Darkenss Falls is clearly a victim of that. PG-13 is the last thing movies like this could use.

Liebesman always seemed to be a director who liked a bit of noise, including in Darkness Falls. This film is not subtle and the monster comes into full view during the opening. Not the best choice if you ask me, but if the film's sequel was surprising, there was still something to look out for.

Not in this case, because the sequel is entertaining and so on, but not necessarily better. Mainly a lot of noise and yelling but not of the highest quality kind. Clumsy tension build-up and faint, noisy scares. I also didn't think this so-called tooth fairy was the most threatening appearance, so that also slows down the experience a bit.

Acting is fine. Nothing special, but nothing disturbing either. A number of roles from actors who later became more famous, always nice to see the younger faces again. The characters are also quite boring, but again there is nothing really disturbing. Just classic interpretations in the story really.

The finale is fairly full of horror, but again lacks some tension. Fortunately, the pace is fast, much faster compared to most mystery horror films. That's nice for entertainment, and since the film only lasts 85 minutes, there doesn't seem to be too much ambition in the game.

The murders are going a bit too fast, snap your eyes once and you've missed it. Had to revise a few scenes to see what just happened. Darkness Falls is interesting and sometimes well directed, but the lack of tension is still killer. Not necessarily bad, but it could have been a lot better.
