The film contains three short horror stories. Anne carries out her work during her night shift at a gas station in a closed cabin, which, however, does not protect her from all danger. The Gas Station - 3*

Nice build-up of a young, attractive woman who keeps seeing men passing by who may be dangerous during her night shift. Yet the creep comes from an unexpected angle (although, it is playfully hinted at). Good balance between humor and satisfying horror, but it ends a little too abruptly.

Hair - 2.5*

More humor with an entertaining horror twist. Here too a nice setup is given, but just when it seems to be going somewhere, it's already done. Stacy Keach is fantastic as the sad figure who sees his manhood evaporate when his wild hair is gone.

Eye - 2*

Sort of a copy of the previous video (medical procedure gone wrong), but it is so predictably worked out that it never surprises. Mark Hamill is on a roll as the psychotic househusband with tantrums.

The Morgue - 3*

John Carpenter has fun as a coroner with a little too much passion for his job. Anyway, the mortuary is a nice setting. Nice one-liners and always with an entertaining nod to the viewer as an ally. Even a nice twist at the end.

An anthology film consisting of three episodes. Three pleasant horror stories with a decent dose of black humour. A humorous frame story revolves around this in which John Carpenter, as a morbid pathologist surrounded by corpses, ushers in the stories and with visible pleasure extracts all sorts of unappetizing parts from the human body. Nice.

The three stories were originally intended for a TV show à la “Tales from the Crypt”. The show was canceled and three stories that had already been filmed were made into this anthology film. The three episodes are directed by John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper and (the relatively unknown) Larry Sulkis. The result is a pleasant film in which fellow directors Wes Craven, Sam Raimi and Roger Corman also have a part. Not as a director, but as an actor.

They are pleasant videos. Films with a bitter or violent finale that illustrate a moral or awakening in the main character that, of course, comes much too late. All the stories have such a striking ironic twist at the end. In all the films, the characters struggle with fears that drive them to idiotic behavior. That behavior is exaggerated and sometimes even cartoonish, which is fun and disturbing at the same time. Fear makes people do strange things. It does not matter whether a fear has a rational or an irrational origin. In any case, the fears here are good for exciting and funny events.

Body Bags is an entertaining horror anthology with three successful stories. Fine irony, compelling storylines, pleasant characters and references to the eponymous series of horror comics from the 1950s ensure a pleasant film experience.

Body bag stories...

Welcome to Carpenter's horror club. Body Bags is like omibus In line with Creepshow (3*), Tales of the Crypt (3*), Nightmares (2.5*) and Necronomicon (3*) . Three separate horror stories with a lot of humor. The whole second story with Stacy Keach obsessed with his hairdo is the best example of that. The first "gas station" story was less original, and bears many similarities to the "Terror in Topanga" story from the movie "Nightmares". Last with Mark Hamill getting the eye of a necrophiliac serial killer transplanted is the grossest episode. It is entertaining, although for me it is more because of the humor than the tension and horror, and also thanks to the feast of recognition with a whole host of actors, top models, singers, film people who are very well known: Sheena Easton, Roger Corman, Wes Craven, Twiggy, Debbie Harry..
