Yes, the movie is predictable and I personally think the movie gets away with it. It really is a beautiful film with a rollercoaster of emotions and drama and yet also delicious action. It's a shame that you didn't believe it Kurtz, although I understand your point of view. Nevertheless, that didn't bother me in any way and that's probably the difference between a (very) high rating and a lesser rating like you give the film.
Despite the predictability, the tension in the semi-final between Brendan (Edgerton) and Koba (the unbeatable Russian) predominated for me. In that respect the finale is actually more of an anticlimax indeed, although the reconciliation itself is beautiful. Beautiful music and very strong acting by both gentlemen, but especially Edgerton. A very entertaining film that makes you empathize and sometimes puts you on the edge of your seat.

Warrior remains an unparalleled film. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are great as two brothers and former MMA fighters who have become estranged from each other, only to find themselves squarely against each other in the ring after years. Warrior is a genuine family drama, but besides that it's also just a movie with excellent MMA fights. Edgerton plays Brendan, who has retired from ring fighting and is now a good family man and a high school teacher. Due to money problems, he slowly picks up his old life again.
Hardy plays the returning soldier Tommy, who goes back to live with his father (whom he doesn't like) and immediately picks up the fight again. Nick Nolte is great as the alcoholic father Paddy, who wants to make amends but also sees that his sons want nothing to do with him anymore. When both Tommy and Brendan sign up for a major MMA tournament, everything comes together. All the pent up emotions and feelings come to the surface and the three actors are peerless. In addition, the film has a great soundtrack. Warrior is much more than just a sports film, and the film also provides a wonderful glimpse into the lives of the Conlon family.

Reminds me of Law Abiding Citizen. Not in tone or content, but also such a highly rated film (also by people whose opinion is usually easy to follow) of which I honestly don't see why.
The film still starts well, but soon we watch a great funeral march of trauma on trauma, at the end about 5 too many. A lot of time is taken to give the characters a background, but in the end they are drenched in clichés. And then when that tournament comes where they both end up in the final and with that horribly sweet ending, the movie becomes more slapstick and all the drama and all the build-up is completely gone.
Visually okay and certainly well played by Edgerton. And I wasn't really bored either. But what a monstrosity this is. 1.5*.
