Mamma Roma plot
Anna Magnani, Mother of Rome, plays a middle-aged prostitute who wants to leave her past behind and live a good and respectable life for her son. After her many years on the street, she has saved enough to buy a house and a fruit stall. She takes her son, her great pride and happiness, from the countryside to live with her. She will do anything for him, but Ettore does not want to work or study, hangs with the wrong people and falls in love with a young prostitute. Mamma Roma's biggest challenge turns out to be her past that won't let her go.
