Arie Kater - De Kater Komt Later plot

Arie Kater is one of the leading painters of Amsterdam in the 1950s to 1970s. He is part of a group of artist friends and drinking brothers such as Aat Veldhoen, Peter van Straaten, Peter Vos and Jan Sierhuis. In many of his paintings he combines nude and eroticism with decay and decay. Remarkably often they are self-portraits. He lives his credo "living well is not living" and dies far too young at age 55 due to his lifestyle. In this documentary, his granddaughter Nova van Dijk goes in search of her grandfather Arie Kater, whom she never knew, through his old friends and her mother. The drink soon turns out to be a common thread in his life. But in the end it is the art that counts. The hangover comes later. Family and friends paint a portrait of Arie Kater, who was able to paint man in all his nakedness and decay like no other. A film about friendship and about the romance and tragedy of the artist's existence.
