Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy plot

"don't... fall... asleep."

In 1984, film director Wes Craven introduced the horror character Freddy Krueger to the general public. This bloodthirsty bogeyman became extremely popular and appeared in six sequels, a spin-off with horror character Jason Voorhees and his own TV series. Never Sleep Again looks back at the success of Krueger and the A Nightmare on Elm Street films.

Documentary of almost 4 hours long, but as a fan I enjoyed every minute of it. Never Sleep Again is quite informative and told at a great pace without seeming rushed. Nothing is said too much and almost everyone who contributed to the Elm Street series gets to speak. The intro videos for each part in claymation are also very nice. Gives this documentary its own character, just like the fantastic original artwork for the cover. Perhaps even more fun than the documentary itself are the extras on the second disc. That extra disc makes this release really special. Very good!

4*

Good documentary about the popular horror film series A Nightmare on Elmstreet. A considerable length that is not really noticeable (and that is a good sign). All parts are discussed in detail and the practical special effects are of course fun to see. I'm not really a fan of the series, but as a film lover this documentary is definitely worth watching.

This 240-minute documentary by directors Daniel Farrands and Andrew Kasch is also a nice watch, just like Crystal Lake Memories, although it is more fun if you have recently watches the film series parts for this session. It is a complete story of all makers who look back on their experience(s) at the time. I still think that Farrands (and Kasch) could have been a little less chaotic with the material at their disposal on a structural level. The facts and memories are more or less randomly interleaved in the order of the film series and that may be a bit too easy, but the final experience is extremely enjoyable and the passion that the best people have put into Krueger can never be taken away from them . The hours really flew by, but something like this is of course only recommended for absolute enthusiasts. You should not expect information about the remake here (unless you have the extras).

Thanks to Bubblez for recommending this beautiful documentary.
