Remember Me plot

"Live in the moments."

Tyler Hawkins is a boy who finds himself in a state of total lethargy after his brother's suicide and his parents' divorce. In stark contrast is a young woman, Ally Craig (De Ravin), who has lived through a tragedy but then embraces the carpe diem philosophy. The two get along, but not all the emotional debris is cleared right away.

The film brings a lot of misery and sadness from start to finish. Only in between are some glimpses of happiness to be found.

Pattinson and de Ravin's pretty strong playing pulls you through it wonderfully and the supporting roles are also deserving.

“You once told me, our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch. Is that true for everybody, or is it just poetic bullshit?”

Strong drama. Even in its most optimistic moments, Remember Me has a gloomy atmosphere that leaves you waiting for the impending doom throughout the film. Once that comes, you'll be nailed in your chair for a while, and the last part certainly makes an impression. Director Allen Coulter creates characters who are all scratched and carry a dark past with them.

Coulter films in a lot of dark spaces, places and at late times, and although it's summer in New York you don't see much of that. Pattinson and De Ravin are strong and their relationship is presented convincingly. The bond between Tyler and his sister (played superbly by Ruby Jerins) is even more apparent, and Pattinson and Jerins have a great chemistry that feels genuine. Pierce Brosnan can play a nice jerk with the wrong New York accent, and the Irishman excels in these kinds of roles. The ending fits the dark atmosphere of the film, but I didn't expect Coulter to extend the drama this far. Whether the ending makes or breaks the film differs per viewer, but the man does show guts. Remember Me is an intriguing drama and gives a nice insight into the lives of a number of damaged people, who all want to make the best of life but are constantly thrown back by reality.

Good.

Unexpectedly strong film that I had few expectations beforehand. It is therefore recommended to watch the film with a mindset that is as empty as possible. The fact that many well-known actors are involved can sometimes make it difficult to take the story seriously, but the final outcome easily blows that off the map.

Pattinson and De Ravin don't really play their best roles in this movie, but they do a decent job nonetheless. Despite several believable moments, they never really want to catch on completely. This also applies to the other roles such as those of Cooper, Brosnan and Olin. They don't necessarily do a bad job, but it is made difficult for the viewer to create a real connection with them.

Nevertheless, the story draws easily and the scenes are intriguing. I just have to say that the final itself is the icing on the cake. Beautifully directed, really knocked me out of my seat while the rest of the film was rather half impressive. Perhaps it was done for the effect, but that effect is then easily obtained.

I thought it was a movie that made me think a lot. For a long time, in fact, and with such an impact I can hardly rate it lower than my current grade. The rest of the movie has to get going at times and that takes too long, but the movie is never bad. It's been a while since a movie really left such an impression on me. I therefore attribute some friendly extra points to it.
