Il Mio Viaggio in Italia plot

The American film director Martin Scorsese selects some thirty important fragments from Italian film history. He mainly deals with the period 1940-1965, the heyday of Italian cinema. The documentary follows the (neo-realistic) oeuvre of Vittorio De Sica, Roberto Rossellini and the early period of Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti. Scorsese proves to be an ideal film teacher: he passionately provides the viewer with background information and sharp analyses, in which he explains the artistic and social significance of the films. In the process, the director sheds new light on titles that belong to the canon of film history.
