wow. This was still one of the highest-grossing films of the year in 2000? Really incomprehensible. I would go so far as to say that this is the first time that I can barely sit through a Disney film. Whether it's those unsightly monkeys, the really simplistic script stolen from The Land Before Time and Fantasia (both better films), the dull characters or the bad voice acting: Dinosaur is a huge flop in almost every way. Glad Disney didn't push this further. Small plus for the carnotauruses who still looked somewhat good. A big middle finger to the fact that it contains an ankylosaurus that behaves like a dog.

Actually, I can quite agree with the upstairs neighbor. I have outgrown the dinosaur phase, but it was still fun to watch, especially because of the beautifully animated dinosaurs. The monkeys were a lot less.

Apparently Disney has used its budget completely for the animation, because for the rest Dinosaur bar has little to offer. The characters are flat clichés, completely uninteresting and characterless. I thought Treasure Planet had the most boring Disney hero ever and I'm just going to stick with that, but the protagonist of this movie can do it too. He's so drowsy I've already forgotten his name. The rest of the characters aren't much better, and humor is also rarely found (the comic relief monkey is especially annoying).

But as a sort of animated nature documentary, it was doable. Not that I have the illusion that it is realistic, but looking at beautiful pictures can also be fun.

Nice film, though the computer animation is not always successful. The humor as with many other Disney films is lacking here. Still worth it I think and therefore a big 3.5 stars
