When Admiral James Greer falls seriously ill, Jack Ryan replaces him as one of the president's top advisers. His first assignment is to investigate the murder of a personal friend of the president. Watched this movie for the second time now. I like movies with a political/military setting. The theme of the story is the endless "war on drugs". Politicians must maneuver carefully to fight the drug cartels in South America, preferably without too much interference from Congress. The film maintains a good balance between the political joust and military operations.
Starring Harrison Ford and (especially) Henry Czerny and Joaquim de Almeida.
