Cat Ballou (Fonda) is a young woman who hires Kid Shelleen (Marvin) to protect her father from an evil gunfighter. Unfortunately, Cat finds out that Shelleen isn't always reliable, but is always drunk. Despite Cat's best efforts, her father is murdered. To get revenge, Cat herself becomes an outlaw with her drunken boyfriend as a comrade.
