In the near future, America has become a barren and dangerous no man's land. Armed with his shotgun, sword and instinct, Eli has roamed this world for years, defending himself against extremely violent gangs in search of survivability. In California, self-proclaimed dictator Carnegie orders his gang to overpower Eli. During this cat and mouse game, Eli meets Carnegie's stepdaughter Solara, who tells him about her stepfather's cruel and destructive plans to conquer the area. Together, they continue Eli's journey to San Francisco, where the ultimate goal of his long journey is to deliver vital information that could save all of humanity.

Surprisingly good.
The film captivated me right from the start. Because of the beautiful camera angles and especially the beautiful setting, it didn't just become a stupid action film, but it also had more to offer. The story starts fairly calmly and I had already filled in the things that you were supposed to understand later. Of course a beautiful concept that really comes into its own thanks to Denzel Washington.
Acting was above average. I've never been a very big fan of Gary Oldman, only here he convinced me well.
The ending is well worked out, I wasn't disappointed but thought it was very good.

Quite fun.
Less action film than expected, but also less road film than I expected. It's a little too much neither flesh nor fish. Despite three noisy scenes, the action is quite sparse, and the religious aspect is also just a coat rack of something and nothing. Mad Max in the mix with The Road, it's like that.
Denzel Washington - who I'm not much of a fan of - is okay, while Mila Kunis serves as eye candy as a sidekick. Acting does not succeed and plot-wise her character has no meaning either. Gary Oldman does make a successful villain.
The Hughes brothers create a dirty apocalyptic world. The filter is well chosen and the film is shot in a controlled manner. The scene in which the old people's house is destroyed is nicely done, such elongated shots - with or without the help of technology - are always nice to see.

Fairly impressive.
A film I initially refused to watch as I hated the opening so much. I have a cat myself. Later I decided to look further into it and that was a good thing to do, because I quite enjoyed it.
Especially the idea of the hole in the ozone layer is something that we all need to think about, and this film shows that partly successfully. In any case, the decors and sets are top notch. Sometimes the CGI left it a bit behind but you don't really notice that.
At times also very impressive use of the camera, scene with the machine gun in the truck was enjoyable. In addition, the story does not take a crazy and over the top turn where many films go wrong. Drive Angry 3D is an example of this.
Quite a successful film, gets a solid 4 stars.
