After many years, inmate and musician MacKenzie "Mac" Scott is pardoned. His wife Marjorie 'Mudge' is meanwhile having an affair with the wealthy Philip Ames. Despite this, Mac travels, incognito, to his family in 'Fish Town'. There he befriends his daughter Victoria Vickie' Scott, who does not recognize her father. Mac encourages Vickie's musical abilities.
