"The girl who took a shortcut down the primrose path!"
Ex-prostitutes Lorry Evans and Minnie are released from prison. Both want a good life from now on and think they can find it in rich men. One day Lorry meets Dan, the owner of a cotton boat, whom she falls in love with. Lorry must choose between living on a barge with her lover, at the risk of discovering her past, or remaining the mistress of wealthy Stephen Paige.
