"lieksa, matriarch, finnish"

When patriarch Otto dies, the extended Koppelo family expects the family's mother, Martta, to lead them on. The gypsy caravan is home to these itinerant dressmakers, but Martta struggles to contain her three boys, Repe, Ventti and Hippo, all three of whom appear to suffer from borderline. The three knock down a young man dressed in a toga and take him to the family, who call him Kasper. Since Kasper can no longer speak, the Koppelos treat him as a mascot and tell him the family legends. The beautiful Lara falls for the blond Kasper. But when the black sheep of the Laszlo family returns, a serious problem arises between him and the strong-willed Martta, who tries to lead the family to the city of Lieksa as Moses led his people to the promised land.
