rather boring predictable film that takes itself too seriously in its attempts to unfold a script. it starts off slowly and nowhere does the film grab you. the only thing that keeps it interesting is the character Harry. the acting is quite theatrical.
Dorian's changes come too fast to be believable and to get carried away, despite it being made clear that there are time jumps in it. there's too much repetition in the scenes (at some point we understand his sexual debauchery ).
as soon as Dorian starts killing there is some tension, but it doesn't suit the character that it doesn't arrive. and more and more horror-features are coming in, especially the ending.
there are better snacks, you can skip this one.

That was a long sit. The story soon becomes clear. Handsome guy makes a pact with the devil. He lives a life of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll and the hangover is absorbed by a painting with his likeness. You know he has to face his demons once... Only it takes almost 2 hours. Lots of continuity errors in the movie. The handsome boy's wild locks are different with every shot.

Not high quality.

Dorian Gray gives me a bit of an arrogant vibe. Not because the character of Barnes himself is so arrogant, but because with this film director Parker seemed to think he was already there by directing a charming setting. Although the film leans on a nice style, the content falls through the basket.

Barnes delivers a nice, but somewhat reserved performance. The role seems a bit too embarrassing for him, and the nervous tendencies that come with his role are unfortunately not suppressed. Firth, on the other hand, seems to feel completely in his element with his sarcastic and engaging role. It must therefore mainly come from his character here, because that is also where the most surprise is.

The concept of a magical painting looks like a very original idea in advance, but it is hardly used by director Parker. The viewer knows that something is changing, but it could have been much more original. Plus, it also ends in a messy way to go completely under during a bland and forgettable finale.

Visually, there is little to complain about the film. Nice choice for music, charmingly decorated. The camera work could have been a bit more special, but in terms of color there is plenty to see in Dorian Gray. It had to be, because the word "art" is an important point throughout the film. In fact, it's even about it, so a little feeling for coloring was much needed.

The messy finish and lack of originality while making the film desperately need to feel early and let it go under. Furthermore, there was a nice film behind it with a fairly charming directing style. The film simply lacks atmosphere and tension. A disappointing film as a whole with potential, but too many weaknesses.
