"A past to forget - a future to find"

14-year-old Juhani is traumatized by an event in his childhood. After six years of traveling back and forth between orphanages, he ends up in the boys' home 'Het Eiland'. This place is run by the cruel Olavi Harjula. The house is a world of its own where seven other boys live plus the director's wife. Juhani slowly begins to wonder how much longer he will have to pay for past mistakes.

Fine drama about grief and young boys who are traumatized by an event in their youth, this relatively unknown film actually deserves more attention and has touched me well. The pure acting performances also do the film a lot of good, as do the beautiful nature scenes, recommended!!

A boy arrives on an "education island" and there he has to deal with his past. The film has a lot of promising elements that could have made it a beautiful and special film. Dealing with the director and also with the daughter of the director. And the relationship with the rest of the boys who also carry their past. There is also good acting. But gradually the film seems to lose its grip on the story and everything is exaggerated. And then it comes across as forced. And that is a pity, because this film could have been a real winner. Now he just stays on the positive side of the line for me.
