"In the end things work out for the best, for all of us"
A counterfeit five hundred dollar bill sets off a chain reaction of "evil deeds" and connects the various episodes and criss-crossing storylines of Frozen Land. The film opens with the dismissal of a literature teacher, who then turns to alcohol and chases his rudderless son Niko out of the house. Niko prints a counterfeit five hundred euro bill from his friend Tuomas, which ends up at the unsuspecting Isto. As a result, he gets into trouble, steals an expensive car and in turn passes on "evil" again. Anyone who comes into contact with the doomed banknote is irrevocably drawn into a spiral of violence.

Well constructed psychological drama, which does show some similarities with Louhimies' later Vuosaari (2012). Looks like a mosaic story. Quite heavy at times. One of the better Finnish movies in my opinion.

Compelling, mostly tragic mosaic of lives, linked by a series of chance events. Here and there quite explicit in terms of violence and on an emotional level, things are repeatedly slammed. Well made and played, with the bleak wintery Finnish landscape omnipresent in the background.

Nice gray stuff. The premise that the focus changes character every so often is nice. Storylines intersect, but not in an overly difficult or forced way. There is (dark) humor and the imagery is fine. Yet the film drags on a bit too long and it is more of 'the same', it gets a bit too entangled in its own misery. Some cinematic clumsiness (the editing with the car accident or tripping over a track) doesn't help.
