Max Velthuijs - Is het Leven Niet Prachtig! plot

Max Velthuijs (1923-2005), spiritual father of the Frog Books, wrote and drew nine picture books about Frog, but also about other animals, winning several prizes. He garnered worldwide fame for his work. Velthuijs always felt more like a draftsman and saw writing as a necessity because there was simply a story to accompany the drawings. Director Arno Kranenborg made an intimate film portrait of Max Velthuijs and follows him in the creation of his latest book, "Frog is sad". The documentary gives a picture of how the man behind 'Frog' lived and worked.
