Appropriate Adult plot

'Appropriate adult' is the English term for a social worker or other 'suitable adult' who must be present during police interrogations if the suspect is a minor or considered very vulnerable. When social worker Janet Leach (Emily Watson) is called up for such a task, she can't believe it's the start of a nightmare that will turn her life upside down. The police case she is involved in is that of serial killer Fred West (Dominic West), the infamous 'Gloucester Monster'. Fred is suspected of raping, assaulting and murdering dozens of young girls along with his wife Rosemary for years. A horrific beast in the eyes of the police, press and the rest of Britain, Janet slowly but surely becomes more and more captivated by Fred. She gets confessions from him that astonish the police, but the price she pays for this is high; the manipulative and domineering Fred increasingly grips Janet.

Disappointing compared to the documentary. Everything here remained rather superficial due to its short duration. Better watch the documentary if this bizarre story intrigues you. 2.5 stars.
