Average Twilight Zone.

What starts as a nice war thriller quickly turns into a SF story. At first this does not detract much from the story and the associated tension, but when the ultimate goal of the mission is reached, many clichés have already been pulled out of the closet. The ending also turns out not to be much stronger than an average TV episode of, for example, The Twilight Zone.

Average.

Surprising film that I found better than expected.

Despite the meager story, it manages to create a mysterious atmosphere that will keep you interested until the end. Even the acting was relatively decent and didn't disturb for a moment, which is often the case with these types of films. The effects are far from spectacular and clearly low budget but certainly not bad (except for a few very bad ones). The choice to have the story partly told by the main character was a good one, it almost reminded me of Fox Mulder at times.

Those who don't expect too much can still enjoy themselves with this film.

3*

Pretty special.

And that has this film in its favor. The Objective comes from a director who has quite some experience within this genre (horror/thriller), and this film seemed to be the opportunity for him to finally work with a reasonable budget. Enough budget and complete freedom can be a good combination, and that was the case here.

A cheap approach is chosen within this film, by which I mean that everything in this film makes you feel like you are watching a no-budget film. Appearances can be deceiving, because if you take a closer look, you will soon see that this film has quite a bit to offer. You will not find large explosions or many giant monsters, but you will find a separate and fascinating mystery film with action and horror elements.

Where the film eventually goes is very intriguing, and does not give too many answers about the ending. So the viewer has to give some meaning to it himself, but I still thought it was a pity that if the film gets the chance, it can't tackle them. The starting point is kept out of the picture a lot, I would have preferred to see it differently.

The acting is nice, although I can't remember a single name. The characters are just too flat for that and there is little progress. Some effects can also be called broke, such as the man who drops himself off the rock. That didn't look good. Towards the end the film gets a bit better cinematographically, everything before that isn't very impressive in that area.

I thought it was a fascinating film that leaves just too many opportunities untapped towards the end, despite the end result. What I also miss is the fear and tension in such a mysterious situation. This film gives off little emotion, and the direction could have improved on that. A little too safe, but a special film that starts off with a nice premise. I quite enjoyed it.
