We could also view this for free at the library, so we also took it with us. I didn't know the movie or game, so it was a surprise to me. The film reminded me of the Alien series, although this film was much bloodier and also a bit less developed. The movie was more action oriented than Alien. After watching the film I was certainly not disappointed and I was intrigued what could follow. The movie didn't last that long either, so it didn't get boring.

Furthermore, I certainly didn't think the animations were bad, although there were also pieces in it that were made by the computer.

I certainly didn't think it was a bad movie, but I was still a bit hungry at the end.

Not too good.

Nevertheless, it can be said that it is nice to see people making a movie adaptation of a popular video game. I've never played Dead Space myself, but the sounds surrounding the game basically say enough for a nomination on the radar. That there will ever be a broader adaptation with a large-scale budget would not seem unreasonable to me. For now, fans have to make do with an animated film.

I've seen a playthrough of the game, and this movie doesn't really look like that on an atmospheric level. Somewhat rickety animation that throws a lot of the tension overboard and puts back some gore in return. I actually get the reasoning, it's hard to evoke a sense of dread with the final stylization and animation style. It looks bare and distant. Characters are also uninteresting and even annoying, but many of them (fortunately) mainly serve as beef cattle for an enemy that unfortunately does not vary much.

It's all amusingly happy and with a final playing time of only 74 minutes it's over in no time. I can't say it was tough to get through, but if we have to judge it on a qualitative level, Dead Space: Downfall will score very few points.
