1917, New Orleans. Grabielle is a young and innocent girl from the city, who ends up in prostitution under the influence of her lover. She will spend many miserable years until she finds out that her lover wants to marry someone else. She then shoots him dead but is not convicted for lack of evidence. Afterwards she wants to start a new life, but her dark past makes it impossible for her to get a job.
