Very mediocre Charlie Chan, this time aboard a ship (so lots of cabins, railings, and fog) and on Samoa (depicted by means of hula dancers and Hawaiian steel guitar), where Chan and his two "assistants" go in search of the murderer of a high-ranking official at the US Treasury who was himself on the trail of "hot money" from the Philippines. There, the whole film retold in one sentence, and there isn't much more to report, except that every Charlie Chan film is worthwhile for the true fan because of the complex relationships between the many characters and the general approach of high tempo, cheap but atmospheric sets, usually some comic relief (in this case from Willie Best as the wide-eyed and broken-speaking Chattanooga Brown), and the pseudo-profound one-liners of the master sleuth. As mentioned, for the true fan, but really only for *him*.
