Ballast plot
Twelve-year-old James lives with his single mother Marlee in a small town in the Mississippi Delta. His mother works long hours to earn enough money; James is very much on his own. When he gets to know a group of teenagers, James is eager to befriend them. To impress, he makes his moped available to occasionally transport drugs. But when James threatens to become the victim of a violent act by his new friends, Marlee flees with her son. They take shelter with one Lawrence. Marlee remembers him from back in the day, but what had happened between them in the past hadn't quite come out yet.
